Cats have a special way of connecting with us from the moment we see them. Often, we might have no intention of adding a cat—or another cat—to our family, but fate might have other purrfect plans in store. And when you have a special spot for cats in need, it’s hard to resist! I love a happily ever after when it comes to cats, and the serendipitous story of Kismet and Chance might just pull at your cat lover heartstrings, too!

How did you choose their names?

Kismet’s Name

I had gone to a local pet store for aquarium supplies and one of our local shelters was there holding an adoption event with lots of kittens. We had recently lost our 14-year old cats Boomer and Lefty so I had no intention of ever having another cat, but who can resist looking at kittens. When I went over to see the kittens, she came running over to me as if I was the one person in the world she had been waiting for. It was obvious, to me at least, that we were destined for each other……so she became Kismet, the Turkish word for destiny or fate.

Chance’s Name

We had Kismet for about a month when we decided she needed a playmate. We went to our local shelter hoping we could find a kitten close to her age. Not only did we find a playmate for her, but he also looked like he could be her litter brother so we decided that the trip to the shelter was a Chance worth taking.

Are the two of them related? They look so much alike!

Kismet and Chance are often taken for brother and sister, but they’re actually from separate litters. In fact, Kismet is a little older than Chance. They were born in 2013; Kismet’s birthday is March 20 and Chance’s birthday is April 30.

How do they get along with one another?

They get along together really well for the most part, although there are times when they’re playing that I do have to reprimand Chance….he’s younger, but he’s bigger and he sometimes forgets that and gets a little too rambunctious.

What is each of their personalities like?

Their personalities are polar opposites. Kismet is very zen, kind of a spoiled diva and she’s most definitely daddy’s girl. She loves to be pet and will sit for hours. She’s always with my husband either on his lap or on the arm of whatever chair he’s in. Chance is very mischievous and willful…..kind of a furry Dennis the Menace. He’s always either zooming around the house, opening kitchen drawers, trying to open doors to get outside, or opening the kitchen cabinets and getting inside them. But then, when he tires himself out, he’ll curl up on my lap for a nap or to be pet…..but you can only pet him until he decides time is up…..then the murder claws come out.

How would you rate their cattitude?

Their cattitude is off the charts. They do pretty much what they want, when they want, and they’re not averse to sitting in judgment or making their disdain known, particularly if dinner or their nighttime snacks are even slightly late.

What’s something special you’d like people to know about your cats?

These fur-babies are just a joy to me and my husband. They’re very different personality wise, but each one is special.

I want to give a special “thank you” to Chance and Kismet’s owner for allowing me to share their images and story with all of the Cattitude Daily. Their story shows you that sometimes in life, the most perfect cats come into our lives with a little help from fate on their sides!
