Baks – A Loyal Soul Needing Calm, Structure, and a Second Chance. Baks is a Ukraine war dog in need of a safe haven. Available under a foster-to-adopt or foster needed.
Baks is a striking, intelligent 2-year-old small-to-medium-sized boy (44 cm / 15 kg), currently based in East Sussex. After nearly 7 months in the UK, it’s become clear that his current home, despite their deep love for him, is not the right environment.
He needs a fresh start with someone calm, patient and experienced—someone who can help him find his place in the world.

Rescue Story:
Baks was found tied to the gates of a Ukrainian shelter—abandoned without explanation, confused and heartbroken. Despite this, he greeted rescuers with a wagging tail and hope in his eyes.
His Ukrainian foster remembers him as one of the sweetest, easiest dogs she’s ever had, showing no aggression or issues during his time there.
Detailed Information:
In the UK, Baks has formed a deep bond with his family. He loves music, beach strolls, and forest adventures. He is house-trained, non-destructive, crate-trained, and knows an impressive list of commands including: sit, stay, down, heel, place, leave it, middle, find it, and more.
However, Baks does face challenges. He can be reactive to strangers and unknown dogs, particularly on-lead. He’s wary of men (though adores his male caregiver), and can become territorial at home with visitors.
His body language is subtle, making it harder to detect stress before it builds. He has nipped on occasion due to overarousal or feeling unsafe. He also has a prey drive and will chase wildlife.
Despite this, Baks is incredibly affectionate and loyal with those he trusts. He can be left alone for up to 4 hours, walks well on lead or long line, and finds comfort in his crate. He thrives on routine, mental stimulation, and clear guidance.
Ideal Family:
Baks needs an adult-only, dog-free home in a quiet, rural area. His person will need to have some experience—or be open to working with a professional trainer using positive reinforcement methods.
A secure garden is essential, and visits to the home should be minimal and managed. He needs someone who can respect his need for space and predictability.
Baks is not an easy project—but he is a deeply rewarding one. In the right hands, this boy will give his full heart. He is clever, sensitive, and full of potential. What he needs now is a calm place to rest, reset, and begin again.
“He’s truly one of a kind,” says his current family. “We believe in him and will do everything we can to support his transition.”
Health Information:
Baks is healthy. Neutered. Vaccinated. Microchipped.
All dogs are C.Brucella tested before the trip (owners will receive a licensed laboratory test certificate).
RBU, post-adoption support, and 4 weeks free insurance provided upon adoption.
