Duke is a 1-year 3-month-old male Great Dane Cross. He came to the rescue via the stray system and was soon placed in a home alongside another dog from the same organisation.
Since arriving, Duke has proven to be a sociable and playful dog who gets along well with other dogs.
As a Great Dane, Duke is a classic example of the “gentle giant” but also has a goofy and mischievous side. His large size means he can get into all sorts of mischief, often unintentionally, as he explores and plays.
He shares his foster home with another dog named Ben, and together they enjoy lively play sessions that can quite literally shake the house!
Duke is crate trained and can be left alone at home for up to six hours without issue. He is not destructive, and there have been no signs of reactive or aggressive behaviour. On walks, Duke does pull at the beginning, but once he settles, he walks well on the lead.
He has been around children, including a baby as young as 6 months, and has shown no problems in that environment. Duke eats a mixed diet of raw and dry food and maintains a healthy weight of 50 kg with a height of 32 inches to the withers.
The ideal home for Duke would be one with experience handling large breeds, particularly Danes, so they can continue the great work started by his foster carers. He is affectionate, goofy, and loyal—a perfect companion for the right family.
